8/2/2016 0 Comments Making News in Louisburg![]() The Downtown Mural Project is complete and making news! Watch the first of two reports on WTVD-11 (ABC) on the Opera House mural, a catalyst for building community in our historic downtown. Thanks to the artists, Louisburg College student Julius Shumpert and Professor Will Hinton; the Louisburg Historic District Neighborhood Association; the town of Louisburg; the Franklin County Arts Council and the North Carolina Arts Council. When a neighborhood, town, college and arts council come together….
A mural goes up! Just in time for Independence Day, a depiction of a scene in downtown Louisburg 80 years ago will be erected on the City Barbershop Building at Nash and Main streets. Julius Shumpert, a Louisburg College student, and Will Hinton, his art professor, created the work. This week, they told a crowd of townspeople how it came about. The Louisburg Historic District Neighborhood Association's sub grant from the Franklin County Arts Council was funded by the North Carolina Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. The Town of Louisburg provided matching funds. Huge thanks to our legislators, these organizations, and all who had a part in making this project possible! Please mark your calendar and plan to join us as artists Julius Shumpert and Will Hinton share with the community about this exciting downtown Louisburg art project. The LHDNA is pleased to be a part of this project. The board of directors has voted to apply for an additional grant to fund period lighting for the project. Hope to see you there!

Jarrett Hathcock and crew (Sean Kingsley, Eric Lautzenheiser, and Elizabeth Hathcock) were up most of the night roasting a pig for us. Their efforts were not in vain. Yummy!
